How many gallons of saltwater can a 50 gallon bag of IO salt make at 1.026? I am assuming it would be around 40 or so. Thanks!

50 gallons of salt would make 1600 gallons of water, 5 gallons of salt makes 160 gallons of water

A 50G bag of IO makes a nearly full 44G Brute worth of 35 PPT SW.

50G of SW will be made at SG of 30PPT using all the salt in the bag.

how much water is made if SG needs to be at 35 PPT ?

(30*50) / 35 = 42.86 G

I think :P haha

Thanks for the help. I want to buy the brute 44 gallon can but wanted to make sure it would hold enough for a full bag. It just seems easy to dump a whole bag into the water then to try and measure. Thanks again!

you still need to measure the finall salinity

but its better to mix the whole bag, since u will be using the same ratios intended.

Mixing the whole bag at once is ideal - you eliminate the chance for inconsistency which is common when making small batches.

I agree it is right about 42 gallons. I fill my mixing tank to 40, add the salt slowly in increments so it never sits on the bottom, mix it all overnight, and then the next day I adjust it to spec. I usually have to add one to two gallons of RO/DI to get to 1.026. This is for the tradidional IO bags.
FWIW there was a period where IO was making slightly larger bags, I think it was 5% or 10% more salt in the bag. Such bags say so on the bag.
