Hello everyone,
I have this cracked 25 gallon Solana that i want to use as a sump. Im going to glue the piece of glass back with silicone but was scared to fill it with water. The water level would be below the crack but wasn't sure if the tank would still be able to support itself. Would you guys be comfortable doing this? Oh and this is my first post after years of lurking....Thanks!

Meh...sump tanks are cheap. I would never take the risk...imagine losing your entire reef because you didn't want to buy a new $30 sump.

I wouldn't use it. As pointed out the risk isn't worth it.

Hmm well i was afraid you guys would say that. Its a brand new solana that i got for free.
I guess no amount of glue would repair it then.

I wouldn't be able to sleep at night or take any vacations if I knew there was a crack in my tank i've invested hundreds if not thousands in...

Is that the top corner? If so I think it would be fine. Especially if you're gonna put some baffles in it. It pretty much looks like a big chip. That being said peace of mind goes a long way in this hobby.

Are you married? If so, get a new sump with no cracks.

Are you married? If you want to remain so, get a new sump with no cracks.

I would use it without hesitation. Have been using cracked tank for years, and that is very minor compared to what I have used.

I wouldn't be particularly bothered by that.. but then, tanks are more expensive here in Aus :) If you want piece of mind then silicone on another piece of glass to completely cover the crack/chip and allow it sufficient time to cure.. this combined with the rigidity your baffles will provide should see it good as gold for years to come..

i wouldnt worrry about it.
i ran a 55gallon with a broken center brace as a freshwater tank filled it up all the way too nice 3/16" gap for 6 months because i was looking for a steal on a 75 gallon.
heck i have a 20Long that has a crack in the bottom glass in the corner which i siliconed over it has been holding freshwater for well over a year
