Anyone do anything other than the traditional glass fish tank with glass partitions for a sump/refrugium? I am looking for ideas.
Lets see them.

Small sump I made for a nano.. center area is refugium. First compartment holds my DIY skimmer. If you look above the heater you can see a 1/2" wide slot cut in the first baffle. Water flows "through" the wall instead of over the top. Right side baffle has area cut in the front section that runs through the bubble trap to get to return pump. IceProbe chiller and Mag5 in this section. Total volume of sump about 7 gallons. I'm fortunate in that I have a plastic distributor and the end of my block... So, about 12 dollars in cut off scraps, a table saw, a jointer, two whiskey sours and four hours later a nano-sump! :D

2x4s, plywood, fiberglass insulation, pond liner, screws, glue. Cost about $100 for a 120 gallon sump. I needed to insulate it because it's in a room with wide temperature swings. Been going for 10 months. Very happy with it.

Well... pretty lucky I guess since I see so often people looking all over creation for their plastic goods. I have a distributor just down the street from me. IF you're in the Chicago area they are called Petersen Plastics. They are on Pulaski Ave... nice thing is they have a retail portion and they sell all kinds of scraps and cut offs.

Glazer that is a really sweet sump you have there. Right in the flavor of a nano too!

Here's a 15g nano sump that hold's approximately 10g. The chaeto has since been removed and a skimmer resides in the second chamber.

Here's mine...Rimless 1/4" thick glass. All glass is dark Grey, except front. Built inside of the stand. I had the glass cut just large enough to slip through the back on an angle. I had to put all the glass in the stand and then assemble it inside the stand.
Refugium on left, Return section in the middle, Skimmer compartment on the right.

Stand was modified to hold about 11g, before leaking.

I'm trying a few new ideas in my head.
Another shot of the drain area as I was building it.

Looking at the original picture...
In short, the drain will go into the back left section via the upper bulkhead into a reverse durso. There's an acrylic lid on top as well. A bulkhead installed in that section and in the section right next to it (back middle wall) will have two ball valves handling my GEO beckett skimmer. Plan is to send a vast majority of the water to the skimmer with just a bit going over the baffle system. Throw in a few GEO pieces and parts (corner braces, few probe holders, etc) and there really isn't much else to it.
