Hi all,

Going on summer vacation soon, and I would like to get some sort of automatic feeder for my 28G reef tank. I am fine with flake (ugh) for just a week, just don't want the fish to starve.

Can anyone suggest a reliable auto feeder that I can buy and not have to worry about for a week?

Thanks,
Marc

if you have any good friends that you can trust just have them come over while you are away and feed the tank

I use this one all the time on all my tanks. It will feed flake.

It will feed from 1 to 4 times a day based on time of day.

You can contrrol the amount of food. It will also double feed one minute a part if you choose to use smaller feedings.

I use an Eheim auto-feeder on my 28. I like it, but be careful, you only need to open the feeder door slightly or it will dispense too much food.

I´ve got an Eheim too. Works great and has the good thing that it has an internal ventilation so that the food does not get humid.

If it makes you feel any better, the fish won't starve within a weeks worth of time.

^^^What he said^^^ For just a week, I would not do anything - the fish will find things to pick at in the tank - feeders can malfunction, and friends pretty much always overfeed!

I use the Eheim one also, but on our turtle tank. We always forget to feed him, so the auto feeder is best to keep him happy. I always see them at the local Petco stores, in the fish and the reptiles sections too. http://www.petco.com/product/105443/EHEIM-Automatic-Feeding-Unit.aspx?CoreCat=FishFC_Feeders

I got ours on ebay for about 1/2 the retail price, but I was not in a hurry to get it.

I would have someone come over and feed once or twice while you are gone. Prep the food in small containers in the fridge so they don't overfeed.

The ehiem is what Ive used many times and it is pretty reliable as long as it cant find its way into the tank.

I am leaving in a few weeks for an 8 day family vacation, I have a 29G Biocube with a few clowns and coral, and I think I will just not feed for a week and hope for the best.

is what i use.

You can go for 8 days without food but thats kinda mean and probebly not good for them.

I'd be more worried about pipes clogging or an ato issue. I'd have a neighborhood kid come look at it 2-3 times and call you when their there.

I bought the aquachef auto feeder, that thing sucks. It overfed my fish and I came back after a week to an algae covered tank. My friend has the same model and said it would randomly feed even when it wasn't programmed.

I would ask someone to stop by every few days to feed if possible. And I remember someone saying the dried fish flakes having a lot of phosphates? Would explain the algae explosion I experienced.
