Hofer Gurgle Buster for 2" overflow

I have dual 2" pvc overflows and they are LOUD! I wanted to build a hofer gurgle buster for each but can't find any plans for it. I went to my plumbling supplier and was going to use a 2.5" coupling with a 2" x 2.5" bushing but it looks like a 2" end cap will almost cover up the entire hole on the 2.5" connector.

Has anyone here built a a HGB for a 2" pipe? Should I use a 3" coupler and 2" x 3" bushing?

It doesnt matter what adapter you use as long as it is bigger than the return pipe. I just made one for my tank with 1" return line from a 2"-1" adapter. I wanted the extra surface skimming area. All you need is a small amount of room between the adapter and the center pipe for water to flow downwards. Dont worry about the cap because it will be above the water level and not interfere with the flow when operational.
