i found and removed a small snail on one of my acropora.
it's about 1/4" and has a shel that seem to mimic the branches.

has anyone ever seen this kinf of thing ? from my experience something that immitates what it's praying on is always bad !!!

i've only seen the one,i have a picture but my camera is acting up
and i cant transfer it :(

just wondering if small parasitic snails exist on acros ??

Drupella, perhaps? Not sure if I've ever seen any in aquariums though. Or at least no adults.

vermatids are sessil. Not likely that someone that isn't familiar with them are going to think it's a snail. More often a worm.
yeloow, was it actually praying on it? Or just there?

not sure if it was praying on it !!
i noticed it a week ago but at that time i tough it was new growth being that
it was light colored, almost white.because the coral was by the side of the tank it wasn't getting enought light on the other side by the window and was pale.

this coral was on the top side of my tank and it did get lots more color compared to when i got it (bleached) but no striking color morph yet (2 months)

i just recently moved it closer to centre to see if the color would get better and just today i noticed that this thing moved a little (very slowly) and when i touched it with my prongs it tried to hide..

here's a horible picture of the coral !
and one of the snail that i found online that looks alot like the one i removed

ok i don't think the picture for the snail will post but the name that matches it is a coralliophila sp

unles it was cleaning the coral because i got stung a little by a bubble by accident !!! a few branches were stung :(

finaly got the camera working !!!!
no web,or tubule form it's got a shel with bumps on it that resembles the coral when on it and a point on the end.
the darn thing even seem to have the same color on the end.

see pic

unless it's a baby astrea !!! but i don't think it is,the shell is not the same other than that i have turbo and tigers in my DT

Am on your side buddy coz yesterday just found one white snail as in the Yeloowtang shot munching the base of my solomon orange digi. Could it be eating a dead cell or not that not sure. But I dump it in my DSB refuge.

Not more parasites! Atleast it's easier to manually remove compared to others.

thanks guys for the confirmation :uzi: he is going down the drain!!!

Thairun : i was thinking of puting him in the sump but if that refuge goes to your DT i would get rid of it..
myself i figured it might lay eggs and they will sneak back up into my DT :worried: this time with way more little buggers..

i'm reading the posts linked,verry interesting:reading:

i think this explain why no color on the one side,i tough not enoug light but this guy was munching on it,may even need to frag it.

Are all of these white shelled or can they be black as well? I've seen 2 or 3 small ones same like the photos above except they are black/brown pattern
