I had 1 litre (should be 2 litres based on my tank size but having issues with just 1) of NP biopellets in a phosban 500 but cant seem to get them to stay tumbling. I have it being run by a Maxijet 1200 and i try and shake the reactor daily but after about a week its just a solid mass and at that point i think it starts doing more harm than good.

I have taken the reactor offline but wanted to know what recommendations you guys would have on how to run these effictively.

I'd go for a stronger pump. The Maxi-Jets are intended more for circulation than an application with a lot of head pressure. I think the Mini-Jet or maybe even a small Eheim might be appropriate, but I don't know what size that reactor is.

If you're asking for which reactor is best, I just received the Nextreef SMR1. Works great and I'm using a MJ 1200. Next reef recommends the Mag 3. Others like the Tunze 1073.20 (but pricey).

My pellets are the Warner Marine EcoBak, which are reported to tumble easier than the pearls.

I bought the AVAST DIY reactor and added 4" to the height. I plan to plumb it into my return pump manifold. I beileve Warner recommends about 100 gph for flow.

I am also using Ecobak

deepreef, are you using the sponges with the reactor? Maybe replacing them with the rigid fabric that people use for cross stiching. I

that's a question i think a lot of people including myself are wondering about, I'm leaning to a BRS or a Nextreef i can't decide which one i want.

I use a geo 420 pellet reactor (holds up to 2 liters) with the Tunze 1073.20 (620 gph). They also make a 410 model for 1 liter. Comes with mesh screens for pellets and 3/4 output to fluidize them more evenly. I had a problem initially where I was getting too much flow on one side of the reactor and not enough on the other when only running 1 liter. Added another 1/2 liter so running 1.5 liters with pump fully open and am now geting perfect movement with all the media moving at a nice steady simmer. I think my problem was that I had too much unused space in the reactor. I am very pleased with the reactor and pump and both work really well with the pellets.
