My 200 gallon system has been running for about 3 months. I am getting ready to starting using BRS 2-part and today I tested Ca and DKH for the first time and I got:

Calcium: 460
DKH: 11.2

These were taken with Salifert test kits.

It seems strange to have numbers like this without any dosing. Could this be right? I tested twice.

Thanks!

Are you using Reef Crystals?

I think we would need to know what salt you are using first.

Good point. I am using Kent Marine. This one:

Billy tested the Kent at a salinity of 1.0264 using a calibrated refractometer:

Kent
Calcium: 540
Alk: 11
Mag: 1200

So I guess that means until I have more corals/coralline algae using up the Ca/Alk those numbers could be correct. Thanks for the info, Cliff.

Probably a stupid question...but I guess that means I should continue to monitor and then start dosing when I see the numbers begin dropping?

Yes, just watch the alkalinity. That's the parameter that shows changes the most clearly.
