Old sand bed

I am restarting my 29g tank and it still has the original sand which has sat in the tank with no water for ~1 year now. Is this sand still ok to use or should I get new sand?

its a debate but me I would wash it very well with a garden hose and have at it

it will be fine to use. it will just have to cycle again. sometimes cycling old sand can get ugly. but for how much sand you need i'd just go get a bag of arrag-alive sand. it comes wet with alot of bennificial bacteria in it. it has a very light cycle and very short

If you do decide to use the sand then be sure to wash the sand thoroughly.
