i have a small blue hippo tang a little bigger than a quarter in a 45gallon tank and i want to add a yellow-eye kole tang and wanted to know if they would be safe together.

could be fine
different species of tangs are usually ok
other issue is the smallish tank that they are in. your quarter size hippo will outgrow that tank in about a year. And the tank is probably a bit on the small size for a kole as well.
I would pass on adding another tang and try to find a home for the hippo as well

I wouldn't add another tang to that tank. And in fact, I would say that in about 9 months your existing tang will be too big for your current tank.

I have to agree with zooty on that. The tangs will be too big for that size tank.

Hippo will outgrow your tank in few months.

Hippo will grow quick I give it a year. Kole tangs are fairly passive so I see no problems but plan to upgrade your tank.

I got my hippo from someone that had it in a nano that it outgrew in a matter of months, of course I put him in my 300 and he has not grown much sense.
