Im having a hard time choosing what bulbs i want to get for my lighting fixture ( its a corallife aqualight ). I need two 21" 65watt straight pin bulbs. Should i get a daylight bulb and an actinic bulb, or should i do two 50/50 bulbs? My main question is what kind of daylight and actinic bulbs should i get? 10,000k , 6700k or
12,000k, whats the overall best and whats the difference? And what actinic bulbs should i get? If i remember correctly my lfs charges like 50 bucks for a bulb so I was going to order from www.hellolights.com. THANKS

Okay well, the max kelvin rating is 20,000K the closer to that you get the bluer the bulb. I have 2 12,000K daylights- they are nice natural white color. It depends what you like.

Would i be fine if i go with a 65 watt 10,000k daylight and 65 watt actinic? Would it not be yellow looking? FYI it a 29 gallon. So the higher the kelvin rating the more blue the light is and the more hotter? Does a higher "K" mean better growth? I dont want the lights to look yellowish or just plain white. I like to have a hint of blue but not too blue.

The 10,000K should be a white, but natural looking. A higher kelvin doesn't mean hotter. A higher Kelvin can mean that to a point, anything up to 14,000K. I have a 36 inch fixture that has 2 12,000K and 2 blue actinics. I think that one or two white bulbs make the tank to white. What kind of coral are you going to get?

I have a frogspawn and trumpet coral frag, gsp and a zoas frag. My lighting fixture right now has one 65watt actinic and a 65 watt 50/50. I bought the fiture used so i thought it would be a good idea to replace the lights.

You should switch the 50/50 for a daylight. Do you plan on keeping sps?

I have thought about it. Why? I plan on replacing both the bulbs. I have only found
6700k and 10000k bulbs that will work. I was planning on using this bulb as a daylight http://www.hellolights.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=373 , but idk if its a 55watt or 65watt.

About the sps, personally I don't think you have enough light. If you had 2 of the 10,000K then yeah, but your tank would be white. I wasn't sure on the wattage either. 6700K really are not that good for a reef tank like you have. You should have no problem with lps, softies, or zoas.

130 watts in a 29 gal wouldnt be enough for sps? I emailed customer service by the way. So i guess i will do a 65 10000k day light and 65watt actinic. You think that will look good?

My mistake, I thought you had a weaker bulb. You should be fine with almost anything then. Yeah, you should have a nice balance of white with some flourescent color. The big thing with sps is stability.
