Is it possible to have white live rock?

All my rock is green, but it's not hair algae or anything, it just turned green.

Just curious..

The only way your rocks will stay white is if you dont have any lights on your tank they are white when there is no algae

You can scrub it every week to keep it clean. But most of the time you will get algae . You don't want caroline algae?

Sure. This was sort-of the style int he 80's and early 90's... you just have to take the rocks out and clean them (or swap out new rocks) every few weeks.

IMHO, I am not a fan of the "unnatural" look, and I doubt youll find many people on here running a tank like that anymore. If you want clean and sterile, why not just do a FOWLR tank with decorations?

How old is the tank? Green rock is normal for the initial months of a tank's maturity. Somewhere between 3 and 6 months the green should start being replaced by the purple coraline (assuming you don't have hair algae issues, etc.).

this also depends on your calcium levels and if you have some rock with coraline on it already to seed your tank

lol... maybe 100 of them. And make sure they're little starved before you put them in the tank... lol.

why do you want it to be white... won't look natural.

If you go to youtube and look at the LAFishguys videos, one of the services he offers is white rocks / plants for aquascaping on his clients tanks. He has 2 sets of decorations, 1 in the tank, and 1 at his shop where he cleans / bleaches / declorinates them between visits. So yes it is possible if you want the look, it just takes effort.

They are some coraline munching machines, that's for sure.

+1 Mine occasionally goes nuts in one spot an I have a white area. They can be fun too mine picks up anything loose in the tank as camoflague. Nothing says "I'm invisble" like carrying around a veggie clip:lolspin:

+1 on this... My tank just went through this period. Rocks and overflow were turning green. It looked like some type of macro algae forming. I got worried, put an urchin in there. Either the urchin cleaned it up or I freaked out over nothing and it all turned to coraline.

+1 on the best answer so far, No. Nothing put in water exposed to light, fresh or salt, aquarium, swimming pool or hottub will stay white without either constant scrubbing or bleach.

I have an urchin in my mantis tank. He keeps the rocks clean but not totally white. I doesn't look unnatural to me at all. I actually have one rock that is orange where the urchin cleaned the coralline off.

Not live rock.
You can get some fake rock, take em out and bleach and wash em (properly) and put them back in.

Is this a serious thread? White rocks?
