they are, fish usually only get sucked into a pump or grate if there already on there way out.

thats too bad. I had my fav fish jump right out of the tank. Seen him in the morning.

+1 usually what a fish starts to be sucked into a power head they quickly move away. If the fish got caught in there, means that it wasn't too healthy and had something wrong with it.
