Hey guys. I have a 34 gallon RedSeaMax and I'm ready to start adding coral. I'm getting a CandyCane coral and guy is gonna throw in a red encrusting monti frag with it. Anything I should know about the red encrusting monti?

What kind of lighting do you have?

I'm not sure on the lighting there. Encrusting Montis can really be a pita. Some will not color up without exactly perfect conditions. I would pass on the monti for a first coral.

The red sea max tank has 2x 55w 50/50 10,000k & Actinic T5 Power compact lamps. I dont think a monti would be a good idea in that tank.

thanks for the advice. Gonna pass on it. Do you guys see any issues with Kenya Trees? He said that he is gonna throw them in for free.

They can take over the tank IMO. Do you plan on keeping many softies? When I had them I found them to be a nuisance, along with xenia... Ask him if he has any zoas to throw in...

I keep the one biggest Kenya tree & give away or sell the babies. Not nearly as prolific as xenia, IMO.
