I purchased a Lifereef system and it came with a coralife pc fixture for the refugium, with a 10K bulb. I have not had good growth my my chaeto in the 9 months that my system has been up and running. Could it be the light I am using?

They like 5100k to 6500k, mine likes 6500k better

Mine are under 6500k also. Chaeto sometimes doesn't grow up and out like other algaes but gets thicker.Lightly pull it apart and give it some time. You may not have alot of nutrients in your system.Of the 8 different types i have chaeto is by far the most stable.

I also pull mine apart from time to time. After pulling it apart it will thicken again and so on. I also have mine under 6500k lighting.

i have to fluff/pull my chaeto apart and/or trim it more than once a week. if not, it's growth slows due to the lower water flow thru it (from the density of the new growth). i noticed it stays healthy and grows fast the more i make sure it is tumbling and has enough flow... i.e. fluff it

also, get a 6500K light, it promotes vegetative growth in plants better.
