View Full Version : Clown Fish Help!!
Ok so last night my clown fish that i have had for about 2 months went after my Yellow watchmen goby. Dam thing bit his belly out and sent the YWG for a dive out of the tank witch he did not survive. (poor Walter)
So since this has happened my clown fish is barley swimming around the bottom of the tank in the front right corner. He seems to be breathing very fast. He is not really swimming kinda of swaying. Every so often he has really erratic swimming almost jolting from one area to another? after that he goes right back to the front right corner and sways again. He wont move from that corner even if i get him to he goes right back their. He did not want to eat aswell.
If anyone can help me that would be great. Nothing else in my tank is acting strange. All snails , hermits , and the feather duster's are fine.
My water parameters are fine. There are no other fish in the tank As the YWG was the only other one.

What are your water parameters? Fine in your eyes may not be fine in others. Also what is the temp of your water? Have you changed anything recently?
my water parameters are
Ammonia = 0
Nitrite = 0
Ph=8.2
Nitrate= 10
salt = 1.023
My temp is always at 78
No I have not changed anything other then the noraml water change i did 4 days before. but i do them everyweek. RO water .

I wish I had insights, but just wanted to offer moral support--my two ocellaris have been acting similarly (no biting though!) and I lost one this morning. I've also posted a question about it--here's hoping for some ideas!

Clownfish are known to be territorial; once they decide to host in something they will defend it vigorously. Your clown may have decided to "host" in the corner of your tank, and the goby violated that territory. I have never seen a clown bite a belly out of a fish, but I have seen them take a chunk of fin. As someone else on here put it, clownfish are just damsels with racing stripes.

clownfish are very territorial also another thing i would try getting a clown that is smaller than the one you have is in size . Cause being the only clown in there it has changed its sex to a famale which are mean mine tries to bite me but my male seems to care less, and the smaller one will morph into a male and they will pair up. One more thing i would try since you have corals in there they should appreciate this as well. Bump your temp up to about 80-82f lower temp i have found makes my fish lazy....but i would definitly get a smaller clown of the same kind for her to swim with and mate with which will take some time..and maybe a anenome of some sorts like a bubble tip or a long tentacle
last but not least get rid of that trate no 10 is not alot but may be enough to irritate her get a cpr external refugium and use some chaeto will knock out that trate and keep it stable i woul also look into a better skimmer wish you lived in va i have a skimmer that will smoke that 29 laying around .... Hope i helped
