Do it slowly. Don't add the new salt water that was mixed with the new salt to the tank like you would with a regular water change. When I switched salts, I did it like this:

Week 1: 75% old salt mixed with 25% new salt
water mix

Week 2: 50% 50%

Week 3: 25% old 75% new

Week 4: 100% new salt water mix

This might be playing it too safe, but I'm curious what others have done.

I've heard others just using the new salt water mix and doing 5% water changes first week or water change and increasing by 5% each additional week or water change until they get to their full amount which could be 15% - 20% per water change depending on who you talk to and what their method is.

I just switch, It has never been a problem. I buy what is on special or what brand is going to to give me a freebie lol. I have been doing this for 20yrs with no ill effect. IMHO

Yup... I've done RC, Seachem, IO, Tropic Marin and never had problems just switching.

The only thing you'll notice is maybe your calcium, mag, and other levels might drop or raise depending on the specs of the salt you are using/switching to.

Just do regular water changes with the new salt.

My input - read the Salt Mix Sticky in the Chem forum - great thread.
