My 2+ year old rainbow acan is melting on one side of the colony. Too much light? Everything else in my tank is doing fine.

Pictures and parameters? Anything near it that might be stinging it?

+1 for being stung being a likely cause. If you haven't changed lighting recently, I doubt too much light would become an issue after 2 years, especially if it was retaining its rainbow colors. Check your alk, ca and magnesium levels.

Do you have any dwarf angels? I tried acans three times in my display tank. They wouldn't open and then withered away. I moved the last batch to my basement sump and they prospered nicely. I blame a pair of Potter's angels for their constant "picking" behavior.

the coral might have a parasite. My rainbow acan did the same thing I took it out and gave it a bath in fresh salt water and used two little fishes Revive and it seemed to come back and is now healthy.

Thanks fo all the comments.
I moved the rainbow from the display it was below two 400 watt 20K Xms suplemented by 4 t5 into my 48" skinny prop tank under two 54 watt t5's.

I cut the hanging tissue and fragged it. I have not received any loss of color in the mother colony or the frag.

The current params are: MG 1220
PH 8.2
CA 420
nitrate 0

One of the dosing pumps was clogged a week ago and had ph of 7.3. I gave a big boost of juice and got the ALC doser up and running. I have noticed my japanese swallowtail taking an occasional nip on the rainbow acan.

I would watch for bacterial infections around the cut. I've had a couple of close calls with my acans. Make sure to be very careful making changes in the light. I've also had good luck getting them into better shape by feeding them.
