Well, I've had this colony for 4-5 months now and I'm sick of it. I don't have a set up that lends to shutting down pumps easily for feeding. I feed at the same time each day, but no luck getting it to open. I used to have a cleaner shrimp and thought that he was the problem, got rid of him as well as a pesky starfish. Still nothing. I have been stuck pulling it out and feeding it every couple of weeks. I have come down in the middle of the night and seen it open and it's awesome. I'm just so frustrated and happen to be in the middle of a tank switch/upgrade and am getting rid of a ton pieces. This is one.

BEFORE anyone decides to report me as selling in a non-selling forum, let me just say this coral is not for sale. I am giving it away. I didn't want to put it in the for sale forum where every joe blow can see it and say to himself - hey, those sell for $25-35 per head and he has a 10 head colony for free, I'll chop it up. No. I'm giving this away to someone who has had experience successfully training wild colonies to open during the day. I figure the people in this forum are into these things so I should be able to find a suitable taker. Either post here or PM me. All I ask is for a thread where you have had success training these bad boys to open up and feed, or for you to post here in this thread and have multiple people back you up. I know I don't have any sort of tank threads on this site just like you might not, but I have friends who could back me up as to my abilities with certain coral, I'll trust you have the same.

If it's opening at night feed it then, they will usually stay open through the morning, then if you feed again they will stay open during the day better. Not sure if you've tried moving it either but mine is picky about flow and won't open if it's unhappy in a spot. They are dendros for sure, not sun corals or balanos? Usually they are pretty easy to train. I'm sure someone will snap it up.

Seriously, as much as I would live to grab it from you, the problem is your not feeding it enough. In nature they eat at night. More food no one else stealing from them. You just have to switch its head. Only feed it during the day. Start early before the lights go on when it is still open and gradually move it later. It will take no more than a couple of weeks. You need to feed it every other to no more than every third day. Best of luck!

Feeding during the night and bucket feeding should take care of the coral, there is a thread on this forum with helpfull info. I'll see if I can find the link.
If you truly give up, I'm interested. You're in Hazelton, CA right? PM send

Mine is open all day, but has gone through a few spells where it is withdrawn and looking weak. They last a week or two and make me worry each time. No eating or polyp extension at all during those spells. Are you sure your's isn't in one of them?

I've had this for months. Not sure if I've had it 6 months, but it's gotta be close. In that time it has never opened up during the day. It will accept food during the day if I put it on the heads, but it never opens up. Oh well, to the selling forum it will go.
