so ive had my 4 stage spectrapure Ro/Di unit for less than a month
and ive always had an In = 3ppm and Out = 0ppm reading

but i went to top off my tank today and checked my TDS meter
and i had In = 190 and Out = 40

what so suddenly went wrong with my filter?

Let it run a while and then check tds.

just wondering, if my tap water is really dirty
then would it affect the quality of the output water?

or should this filter always put out 0 ppm water?

because i recently just got my driveway redone and they changed a water pipe and maybe that made my water really dirty?

As long as your di isn't use up already. Then it should read 0.

If your normal input/output is 3/0. Then the di should last a while. What's your water pressure at? And always let the system run a while before checking tds. This insures that your readings aren't messed up from tds creep. If your water pressure is low, then your ro membrane won't work right and cause a spike in tds.

In=3 and out=0 reading. Is that TDS meter hooked up between the DI?

I don't see how you can get 190 where it was 3 and 40 where it was 0. Is this the same meter?

If you are still getting 40 after running it awhile, your membrane (and DI) are probably shot.

I would remove your DI and see what you get before DI.
If your not getting 96% rejection then you need a new membrane.

Example 190 source x .96 = 182.4 (- from 190) = 7.6 your membrane is fine. If over 8 TDS then I would proceed with warranty on membrane & new DI.

Should be covered by warranty.

Did you make sure you are running 4:1 on the wastewater per the instructions? If not / if you did not cut the small tube and measure properly, it will kill off the membrane in short order.

Also 3 in is nothing *LOL* I average 650-700 in and 0 out. As others said, let it run for a but before you test.

Last, which stage were you testing? Just after the membrane? After the 1st di stage or?

yeah, its a perfect 4:1 ratio.

and ive been using this filter for about a month with no problems.

always reading around 3ppm in and always 0 ppm out.

it just all of the sudden started to read 200ish in and 40ish out.

and my "in" is testing after the .5 micron sediment and .5 micron carbon and (i think) RO membrane. my "out" is obviously after my DI resin
