Hi,

I recently purchased a neptune apex controller and I am looking to upgrade my pumps to take advantage of the controllability of the apex unit. I am interested in Tunze pump size recommendations for a 72 gal bowfront. I have lps and sps in the tank.

Thanks

2 6105, though you will want to run them likely at the 12V setting and only one at a time. I think the 6055 won't be quite enough for a tank with a sizeable SPS population.

Thanks for the quick reply. I guess the larger size would be good in case I upgradei see that you work for tunze. Can you tell me the benefits of tunze over the vortech units? Thanks

That isn't a question I am really comfortable with as I like people to make up there own minds and I don't like to attack our competitors. I don't really see myself as a salesman and that is never something I have been good at.

I would say this, our 6105 uses 28W, a big advantage of not transferring power through the glass is you don't lose power through the glass. Older listings may say 45W, this was for the older models the 6105 replaced and you may also see 42W which is what the 6105 used originally but further tweaking has brought it down.

I think we have the quietest pump, the new silence holder makes them very quiet.

Our pump can be moved in all directions and aimed at specific points.

We offer a more versatile battery back up kit- 6105.500, this even allows use of a solar panel or disposable batteries.

You mentioned running the units at 12v. How does this level correspond to the percentage of flow?

At 12V you still can adjust 30-100% but 100% is about equal to 2000gph.

Thanks. I assume running the units at 12v wont affect the life span? It does seem that the tunze are much more tightly integrated with the neptune apex system.

One last question. How would I know if a supplier is selling the newer model (28w)? Thanks

The 6105 is a fast seller, we sell out on a regular basis and so do dealers so I don't think you will find old stock in many places. They have been down to 28W since early this year. If anything they will last longer on 12V, at 12V they only use about 14W.
