I am still undecided on the 48 or the 60 inch 6 bulb version. My tank will be a mixed reef 60x24x18. I would like to have a frag rack at the end but for that I would need the 60 inch fixture. What would most people get the 48 or the 60"? Thanks

Either is fine; personally, I would go with the 48 inch as it would still light the tank and not look like a "BOX O LIGHT" look that is been common with t5's. I however like point source lighting vs. stretched...... biased maybe

Same dilemma here.

Ordering a 48x24x18 and not sure if I should go with a 48" or 36" fixture.

Was gonna go with an 8 bulb PM though vs a 6 bulb SP.

IMO opinion if the fixture is going to be several inches above the tank for example being hanged above it, I would go with the 48 inch version in a 60 inch tank and the 36 inch on the 48. You will still have plenty of light regardless and it is nice to he able to set corals on the sides of the tank when introducing them as they are not blasted with a ton of light right from the beginning. I am about to get a light for my frag tank 48x24x12 and I am going with the 36 inch version and It will be hung about 10 inches from the top of my tank

Would you go for an 8 bulb T5 fixture on a mixed tank or a 6 bulb fixture? I want to be able to keep ANYTHING in there...be it a clam on the sandbed, high light acro's, and LPS....but I don't want the LPS to suffer from too much light.

Ohh...tank is 48x24x18 so it's pretty shallow.

Acros and clams would have to be under the lighting and you would be fine. I just wanted to have a frag rack either on the back or side glass but with a 48" version 6 bulb then any frags would not be under the light. Thats where the 60" fixture would help. What do other people think?

Under the ends of the fixture par will be much less.
You also have higher par per inch of bulb on the 80 watt compared to the 54. They use one ballast per bulb as opposed to the 54 watt with two bulbs per ballast.

I used to have 400 watt halides and replaced them with 8 X 80 watt Sfiligoi. Given the 400 watt halides I thought i can just switch to the T5 with no issues. Well I bleached several corals!

SPS dominant full length. Mixed reef get the shorter fixture unless you have a lot of caves to hide your LPS. Speaking from experience.

This is about the exact same answer I was going to post. IME, LPS like lots less light than SPS can handle.
