we have to keep the corals away from his home for he is always spitting sand and moving things and will cover my corals! But he is an amazing fish to watch

that is awesome :). my royal gramma used to occasionally move a big piece of rubble that wasnt feng shui enough for him.
so firerunner, how is owning a blackcap? ive had RG's before and they are the best personality/psyche for tanks, for me.. i've been thinking about a blackcap as my next "show" fish :D to replace my old RG that died a couple years ago already.
are they basically like an RG with different paint? can those be found captive propped or raised? thx :)

Barney (the black cap basslet) is full grown at almost 4 inches, He is almost 3 years old.
He is one of the best fish we have had with an amazing personality. The moving the shells and rock thing is just the start. IF we go in and MOVE his home, for the next week he will charge us as we walk by the tank mouth wide open..like this

I have never owned an RG so I am not sure of their personality. But when/if barney dies we will definitely get another one.
the ONLY problem (and I will video tape him doing this) is he does this stuff to make/clean his home and the sand...he will get a mouthful of sand and then swim away from his home and SPIT the sand out, all over my corals. So we do give him a big area to do his thing in.

Wow, that guy is pretty funny. I didn't know they could get that big. That photo almost looks photoshopped.

hahaha my diamond goby does the same thing.. also does it to snails and hermits which happen to be in the wrong place. my poor little hermits don't have enough homes now because of him. not to mention, I lost a frag or two as well.
