I'm finishing the planing on my new 85 sps build. I can't decide on sand. I'm stuck between Fiji pink and special grade. I will have around 70x turnover. Anyone have a preference or pictures of either?

Special grade personally. It's got a fuzz larger grain size so i doesn't blow around as much

What he said. It handles high flow as well as any sand I have seen and looks great.

Have you looked at Tropic Eden?

I use special grade and am completely happy with it.

Special grade looks and works great for me too. No sandstorms, at least from the way my pumps are arranged.

I've switched from Special grade to Reefflakes and couldn't be happier.

I like the sugar sand as it looks more natural to me. I have two MP40's, and yes it blew around when first established, but once it settled in, it does not blow even with the opposing Vortechs blowing back and forth. I have a 4" deep bed in a 120 gal.

I have a few sand sifting fish and the sugar size is better for them.

If it is a SPS tank, I would go special grade no doubt about it. Fiji Pink is finer and your flow for your SPS is gonna blow the stuff all over the place for awhile. Yes, it may settle down when it gets covered in bacteria, but I still had problems with it after that. I have tried both sands, and like the special grade better.

I agree, Tropic Eden ReefFlakes is the best. Great white color, and a size that won't blow around. Best sand on the market in my opinion.

DZ and OneReef, I did a quick read on the Eden Reeflakes and it looks like a good choice for me. I was going with the Caribsea til now. Thanks

Glad you made the decision. I am sure you will like it. It's kind of sad to see Caribsea dominating the market because I think their sand is very dirty with lots of impurity. Tropic Eden is amazingly clean and consistent.
