What about the noise of the bubble blaster 2000 ?

I want a silent skimmer for my next reef

Best Regards

Extremely quiet. Just a light hum. My skimmer sits in the front room where we watch movies and etc.

light? i can hear mine 15 feet away, guess it depends on light a light hum is to YOU. What not loud to you might be loud to others and to me its louder than any pump i have ever owned.

The hum noise is kinda loud to some of us and may not loud to other.
I been working on the hum for couple days now, Well let me say the pump it self is quiet almost silent. The problem was the pump is hard plumb to the base of the skimmer and make loud hum.
What I did was I modified the connection between the pump and the base of the skimmer with a silicone tube and it worked (SILENT)

Also, I found that depend on how you connect the pump to the skimmer. Sometime you have to twist and sit it a bit to get it quiet down. But if any pump hard plumb to any box it will HUM a bit.

So far I still think it is one of the best skimmer for the price.

Try a Deltec or another brand that cost twice as much and you will find they are much louder in my opinion. I have had 4 different Deltecs, Atb, etc and have found this to perform the best and be most quiet.

I agreed with you N-Kleine,
I also used many diferent type of skimmer before and agreed that for this price of a skimmer it is the best IMO. The reason I know where the HUM come from was I had a BK 400EXT. and I added another pump and hard plumb and it made a loud HUM noise.

Anyways, if you compare the performance of the between the XP5000EXT and the BK300 and BK400 they are the same. And for the price I will chose the XP500EXT.

Just my two cents

Exactly!! I had a BK SM 200 and my XP 2000 seems to outperform even that!! I hope others read this before spending on BK or Deltec and etc.

Sounds like you went down the same expensive road I did. I had the BK SM 200 and this thing smokes it. Mine fills the cup every week with the fowlest smelling skimate and this is only on a 125!!!

Yeh, I been through most of the expensive skimmer and so far this beast beating all of them compare by price wise.

I have it on my 200G system and my tank is crystal clear. that is one week of skimmate.
I still play with the setting to find my taste. How high are you setting your water level?

I have the XP3000 and love the skimmer. Its on my 170 and it could easily hand up too 270-300 gallons stocked well. I'm really impressed with the bubble blaster pumps on skimmers.

When I upgrade in the future, I will be keeping with the XP line of skimmers.

Bill,

How high is your water? let say when you unplug you skimmer's pump and just with you feed pump running, and say from the bottom of the cone up?

Thanks,
Lam

I set mine to when the bubbles start to break just above the bottom of the cup.

I just picked up 2ea of the Reef Octopus 150 skimmers OCT-NWB150 from a fellow member who was switching to fresh water. I currently am running a turboflotor and ASM G1x both with recirc mods. How would these compare? I am getting really nice dark skimmate from the others now.

The newer model Octopus 150 with the bubble plate seems to be a little better designed than the older one - I now have both. I may test them out in my live rock tub for a while.

Ya, that is possible. Pull the cover off the front and make sure the impeller is seated correctly. I have heard some pumps have the impeller sitting in the housing wrong from shipping.HTH. Call coralvue if it gets worse.1-985-781-9078.
