I got a laboutei wrasse today and remember reading an article about some wrasses needing to be kept in pairs or they lose their coloring. Was it the fairy wrasses or flasher wrasses that lose their color?

Only other wrasse in the tank is my potter's wrasse that I got back in January. Tank is 180g so lots of room in there but I don't want to have to pay for another laboutei haha

I should also mention it's a vanuatu wrasse, don't know if that makes a difference.

I think some Fairy wrasses colors are better when kept in pairs or harems, but I think Laboutei's are generally pretty colorfully even if kept as a single specimen. Mine always was.

labouti wrasses are in the blue family of wrasses and lose the most colour without a mate present like scotts. Laboutis do tend to keep more colour though. The ones in the red family lose the least ammount of colour.

Laboutis are known for keeping their color without mates present.

Ok so after actually getting my first labouti today I have some questions for people who have one first are there different color variants out there or do they just change with time? The one I got today is much lighter colored than most I have seen pictures of more redish than the others I have seen and then when I look in the Michael Wrasse book his picutres are even redder yet. My new purchase is a small just changed male it appears. Any ideas anyone?

I got a small pair of Vanuatu Labouti's from D/D a few months ago and love them.
They have always been one of my favorites but I could never find a pair. They have grown about an inch a peice.

This pick is when I bought them.
