i've had my mandarin in my 60g for over a year and the previous owner had it for over a year too, and it's been doing great until recently i'm starting to see its horizontal line. she's getting really skinny so i'm wondering if anyone has any pods they'd like to donate?? i'm thinking maybe i had a die off or something, i have a ton of chaeto in my fuge and there isn't much else competition in the tank. thanks!!!

maybe time to find a better home for her before it's too late.

Try and see if it will eat cyclopsee (spelling?) Mine wasn't an ORA bred mandarin, but it ate that right off the bat ( I was probably very lucky, but doesn't hurt to try :) )

thanks for the suggestions guys, i'll look into those. i wouldn't mind rehoming it but there's' no way i could catch it in that tank. nobody cultures their own pods here though?? just wondering

It would be better to catch it and rehome it because if it's a large tank you would need a lot of pods for their to be a high enough density that it would be able to find and eat them fast enough to restore it's weight. Try and see if anyone is finding pods in their filter socks. That's the easiest way to collect a good amount. Or get lots of chaeto from someone with an established tank. When they get thin they can quickly die of starvation. I had a tank crash once that wiped my pod population and even though I added more pods it wasn't enough and I had that mandarin for almost 3 years.

Saba, try heading down to the Aquarium on Sepulveda and ask Angel for a couple pregnant peppermint shrimp. the shrimp larvae will provide some food. could also help take care of your aiptasia if you have any.
