Hello everyone. I took down the tank a while ago to move and now I get to set it back up again. This time though I get to have the sump in the basement. My question is, what size pvc do I want to use for the drain and return lines. I have a 120gal. tank with two over flows. Would I be alright with 1.5" drains and 1" return. Or do I need a 1.5" return. For now I have a amp master 2700 for return. I would like to go bigger in the future.

You want larger drains than returns. The actual sizes would depend on water flow you're looking for, as well as the pump you're using.

You will be restricted by the bulk head for those drains and returns. My 120 dual overflow has 1" out an 3/4" in. No sense in having a 2" drain going thru a 1" hole...

agreed on the above post. My 180 has dual 1.5" drains and dual 1" returns. I put my sump in the garage and actually run 2" drain and 2" return thru the crawlspace, but it is all sized down when I get to the tank. with my drains wide open, they can handle my pump wide open. it is a Barracuda with 4300 gph wide open but about 2500-3000 with Head pressure. that said, I only run it at about 1500 gph and use hofer gurgle busters to keep it silent. the rest of the flow is split off to the MR2 skimmer and the chiller.
