I am looking to downsize from a 90 gallon "reef" tank to a 30 gallon liverock and fish tank. I want to cut down on electric use, and really have not been all that successful with corals.

Questions: 1) What light will I need 2) can I get by without a sump - using a wet dry filter and an hanging protien skimmer? 3) can I get by without a chiller (we keep our house at 80 at the highest).

What are your thoughts?

depends on what you keep. You wont need a wet-dry if you have a skimmer and LR.

I have a 29g with no filter, no skimmer, no sump, definitely no chiller :). Just heater, powerhead and 28w of t5 lighting on 8 hrs/day. Lr, Dsb, and macro-algae. a single 6.5" mantis, some snails, and occasionally some damsels.
