I'm wondering what depth a 150 watt MH lamp will penatrate to.
I have no plans of doing SPS. it has a water guard, so it does not need to be a foot off the tank.

I really wanted a 250 watt clamp on tank but was unable to find it. and i got a 150 used with 3 bulbs for a whicked price. Anyone have any options for a 250, I DO NOT want to hang it from the ceiling.

Thanks in advance.

For LPS 150w will work all the way down to the bottom of a 24" tank easily for LPS. Even 20k, LPS dont require more than 150w unless your doing a 30" tank or something. I have cap does fine under 150w on the (bare) bottom of my 16" deep tank, even with 20k which I've had for most of the past 2yrs though I'm running 10k now.

sweet thanks for the response.

That's my plan, 24 inch tank 150 watt with a 14 000 k bulb.
LPS and softies, maybe an anenome for a pair of clowns once the tank is well established.

you ahve to remember too, 24 inch tank, doesnt mean 24 inches of water.. you got the sand bed, and the top lip of the tank. Mine is not rimless. So you are probably looking closer to 21 inches of water.

I think it depends on which type of ballast the bulbs are being run on. If you are running it on a magnetic, then you will have a higher intensity because of more current forced into the bulb verse electronic ballast.

I would say 18 inch is max.
