Starting to look at QTs. Do you need a larger QT tank for Tangs or would a 20 gal suffice?

You'll need at least a 125 according to some folks. I spoke with my lfs guy about this. They have been using a 20 for years, occasionally multiple fish, sometimes large. Get as big a qt as you can, make sure it has hiding places for the fish, and get them better to go back to the big tank.

I stepped right into that trap didn't I?
If you keep the water quality up with frequent water changes and have PVC pipe for hiding you will have no problem with a smaller QT provided the tang is not HUGE!!!!!

A 125 gallon QT tank? Really?! How long do you leave the fish in the QT before introducing to your DT?

Don't be silly.....I would have no problem putting a 2-3" tang in a 10 gallon tank for QT. Lets not get ridiculous here folks. Its only for a couple month QT......

I would say a 40 breeder is ideal but you could do smaller.

20 Long should be fine. If it is an adult, then that is a different story.
I use 29 gal tanks, but that is what I had too. Trust RBU1, I do :)

125? LOL!! I had enough problems with a 110!
Big but reasonable is what I would go for. I bought a 55 gal for QT during the Petco $1 days, specifically because I like tangs.

X2. My 3" tang went into a 10 gallon with some PVC for hiding. I treated with meds and did 50% water changes daily, after a month he was good

Tangs get stressed when they don't have swimming room. Some might argue that stressing a fish in quarantine is good, others would argue it's bad.
A 10 gallon should be fine, bigger is better.
