View Full Version : What is growing on my snail?

There is something growing on one of my snails shells. It doesn't seem to be hurting the snail.
This is what it looks like if you mess with it.

Looks like your snail has a coral growing on it to me, I'm no ID expert by any means buy looks like Montipora

I thought it might be coral but I didn't think it would just grow on a snail like that. Must be some hardy coral.

Do you think it will hurt the snail or do you think the snail will grow at about the same rate as the coral and support it?

Lol i agree it looks like a cup coral. In my daughters tank she has a blue leg with a Kenya Tree growing off its shell it goes eveywhere and I laugh every time I see it.

That's awesome. Never seen that before. I have a couple of snails with aiptasia on their shells (a pretty green kind that looks like a zoa polyp).

What ever you do, get it out of your tank immediately!!! I've seen this before!!! I will e-mail you my address and be sure to send it to me so I can put it in my tank (ugh, I mean study it) JK I think you've got a real to life "hitchiker" lol Pretty neat though.

Cool but I would just keep an eye on it. If it's mobile it can sting other corals in the tank. Thanks for sharing.

I once had a crab that took up shop in a shell with a green mushroom on it. It was cool to see the mushroom walking around in the tank for awhile.
