has anyone used the laguna utility 6 in a reef tank? they're primarily for ponds, but they draw low current and put out a ton of power.
I was thinking of using one for a closed loop power head....
any thoughts? or experience?

im not sure about that specific model, but reefers in hong kong love to use the laguna power jet pumps as return. i have a friend who uses the power jet 11000 (2900gph) as a return on his 3x2x2 tank.
i dont see why it couldnt be used as a closed loop pump

cool thanks!
I just wasn't sure if the impeller would corrode or something

It appears that this is the user manual for the "Utility 6" pump:
http://www.hagen.com/pdf/ponds/Utility_Pump_Guide.pdf
If so, the first page states:
"For indoor and submersible use only. For fresh or saltwater use."
So, it'll handle the saltwater, but is not rated for external use - and the typical closed loop design calls for an external pump.

thanks!
I'm really not using it as a closed loop. What I want to use it for is a multi-flow power head using a few ball valves and some loc-line

Sounds like it would do that job just fine.
