I want to move all my livestock from a 37 to a 55. Can tis be done in a day without any livestock loss and also will my tank need to be cycled again? I want to know how to do this properly.

The cycles will balance out allot sooner than creating a new set up. I moved a 75 gal to a 120 gal. I put everything in new plastic barrels with good circulation. I had allotted of salt water ready to go but using all of the old water was good so that everything doesn’t have to readjust to the water and the new environment as well. It takes a long time to grow old friends!

Do you have a sand bed in your current tank? If you don't (or if the sand bed is very shallow) you should be able to transfer everything right over and then top off with new water...it will almost be like doing a water change.

I recently upgraded from a 125 to a 180 in a day... a very long day. It took from about 4:30 AM until 10:00 PM, but it is possible. I used the water from the 125 and recycled the sand as well. Some people argue that you should rinse the sand, but I didn't and had very little in the way of problems. My nitrates spiked for a day or two after the switch, but the recycled LR prevented a large cycle. The only loss in the move was a flame angel who was being bullied in the tupperware I was holding fish in during the move and a frag of CARs melted a couple days after (I'm convinced it was the change in flow/light). Just make sure you have fresh saltwater mixed to make up the volume, plus some extra for a water change a couple days later. Everything looked a bit ticked off from the stress of the move, but quickly recovered. Best of luck and let us know how everything works out!
