I am looking to start a saltwater tank/nano. I really would like to do a 75g but I cannot bring myself to spend 2500.00 to start. Its really hard considering I do not first and how I will like it. I am looking at the Red Max 130D, and the Oceanic 29 HQI. I have been somewhat persuaded to get away from the Red Sea because if something goes wrong the whole thing needs to be fixed.....in other words the parts cannot e fixed individually like the Oceanic. Now with the Oceanic, I have been told with the HQI version I will half to get a chiller. I know with smaller tanks there is less room for error and I am limited to how much and types of things I can put in there. I just cannot bring myself to buy 800.00 worth of rock for a 75g. If anyone can give me any advice on getting started either with a Nano or 75G, please do. I really want a saltwater set-up but do not want to break the bank.........at least not at first. I need to give my wife something to look at before I tell her I want to spend 2500.00 oh yea then we can get some fish in a few weeks.....not good for the home team. She will understand 500-600 alot easier. Thank You

Have you thought about starting somewhere in between the nano and a large tank which would be easier to upgrade later. Also use Craigslist. I got almost all of my 90 for a fraction of the cost of new from Craigslist.

I have watching Craigslist for over a month and I have found some good stuff. The problem is even a tank here, pump there, skimmer somewhere else, its alot of money. I figured even best case 1500.00 and then I have used stuff that could crap the bed anytime. I am really not into buying a Pig In A Poke, especially if I had 1000. in fish and coral. I know I take that chance with new but new has warranty.
