Hey everyone! I am trying to figure out how to save my monti :( I have had it for abt 3 mths now and it has grown some but all its new growth is turning white... I cant figure it out. At first I thought it was my lights so I moved it under t-5's and set it high in my 30 gal frag tank... But it seems to be doing worse... Its polyps come out to feed but are not covering the whole frag like before :( I have now moved it back into my 55 show tank under 2 150 w MH and 2 actinic vho's... I just did this abt an hr ago and since this tank is new to the MH I have been running them very limited until my nem and other corals adjust... I wanna save it any help wld be great :)

Parameters

temp 82
sal: 1.025

tank is abt 7 mths old and I do weekly 5gal water changes with RODI water...

if the tissue is receding you may want to cut the dead spots off and let it re grow. a picture might help a bit as well.

A picture would really help identify potential problems. What is your alk level at? Monti caps should do well under both sets of light that you own. As you probably already know, growth on monti caps can appear white with no polyps, could that be the case? Other things to look for are too much direct flow, or monti eating nudibranchs. Post a pic if you can, that would help a lot.

I found that some of my plating montes reacted this way when the Mg was low. you should have it checked.

Thanks I will have that checked first thing in the morning when I go pick up water :) I was thinking its either my mg or alk neither I have a test for right now :(

I can't tell from that picture, but are you sure that the white isn't new growth?

What are your Alk and Mag levels?

@ Todd some of the white is new growth but along the top where it is really patchy it just looks like something brushed off all the polyps.... I am going to be testing mg and alk tomorrow morning when I go into my lfs... I need to order kits :( i knw bad reef mommy lol

The live stock I have in that tank are a rusty angel never have had a problem with, hippo tang and a lion fish... After abt 3 hrs under the MH it is looking a little better so maybe just lighting issues?? I dunno tomorrow I am going to get my water tested for alk and mg.

On a 30 or 55 gallon tank, with weekly water changes, mag, alk, calcium etc, won't be the issue. All of these will be replenished with the regular water changes. I would maybe step up to weekly 10 gallon changes tho.
