Hey guys, my LFS gave me this rock as a gift from their show tank because I really wanted one of these bright green hairy mushrooms. Pretty nice gesture, but I'm a good customer.

Anyway, he just gave me a big rock from the tank with one on it. They have some aptaisa in their system and I didn't get a good look at what is on this rock but it does have some big polyp looking things. Kinda scared to take it out of the bag.

What are these polyp things? Any ideas?

Would it be smarter to just dremel the rock away that the mushroom is attached to and chunk the rest?

Really don't want to add anything bad to my system

They look like some type of palythoa, similar to zoanthids. I wouldn't worry about putting them in the tank, dip for bugs though. Can give a better ID once they open up.

They are not aptaisia though.

What could I do for the rock to make sure the Palys/Mushroom makes it but no baddies? Dip? You mean freshwater?

They are not aptaisia though.

They have TONS of aiptasia they are battling with in this particular tank. I have zero in my tank. That's why I fear this rock, haha.

a Lugols dip. if you see apistasia, nuke it immediatley with some Kalk paste.

that or dont risk in tand chisel the shroom out.
