So guys i've started to really like corals and maybe start a 10 gallon reef.

Experience wise, I don't have a tank yet, but i've done more research than you could imagine on the predator tank i'm planning on and i hope it can somewhat translate over to this.

i was thinking of getting this light
http://shop.aquatraders.com/Odyssea-20in-1x36W-Power-Compact-Light-Fixture-p/51102.htm

i'm not really sure what livestock i want, i was thinking pulsing xenia or some other xenia sp., maybe some zoa's, im not really sure yet.

thanks,
-david

what are you doing for filteration?
are you going to use a skimmer?
how much live rock?
how much live sand?
heater? ( i recomend a fluval E 50w, i love mine!)

sorry i dont know much about that light you posted, but i would recomend LEDS for a small tank as there wont be a tempature problem......leds can be expsnive but totally worth it

10 lbs sand
10 lbs live/lace rock mixed
i was going to ask filtration later, i just wanna know what kind of stock i should be looking at

im thinking maybe polyps, zoa's, shrooms, and pulsing xenia?

what kind of feeding and maintenance would i need to do

i would feed every other day, and weekly 10% water change

those corals will be fine, pretty easy to keep

as for fish;
Gobie shrimp pair?
clown fish
clown gobbie
firefish

id get 2 FISH max

I've had an ac110 on a 10 gallon. I modded the impeller to tame the flow but it just looked to big and cloddy back there. An ac70 is a good compromise IMO.

As to the light, I'm just anti-PC, I can't help it.

I'm running a 2x24 T5 on my 10g. The fixture hangs over, but not the actual bulbs, so no light is spilled down the sides.

k but just learning here, doesn't the rock work as bio filtration, the powerheads as mech, and the wc's remove nitrates? why then do i need the fuge?

added removal of nitrates, also a good place for critters to grow

You most definitely do not need a fuge, but if you want to put in the extra effort, time and money I'm sure it would help. I used an Aquaclear 50 on my 10g tank. It needed to be topped off daily for sure, but I'm sure every other day would work too. And then at least 10% WC weekly, more would be better though, and its easy with such a small tank.

I don't know if that light would work for soft corals, I'm guessing yes but it seems pretty weak. I had 48w T5 on on mine. But I'm pretty sure LPS would need more light than that. The rocks + powerhead would make bio filtration and a filter would make mechanical filtration.

If you got just those corals and no fish then you'd probably only need to feed a few times per week but if you get a fish (I had a percula clown in mine) then at least once or twice a day, but careful not to overfeed.

not all corals eat, mostly mushrooms and LPS eat. you can use mysis shrimp but turn off the pumps and power heads when you feed the corals. if they are on they will just blow the food away.

pods and amphipods, they feed coral and fish.
