I asked this ? last week and lost track of the thread so I will try again. I am going to set up a sump for my 75 and am planning my purchases. I am trying to figure out if I shoucl use the Sicce small canister filter I have laying around or if I should buy a reactor for the chemi-pure and phos-pure I will run. Any opinions out there?
Thanks

i would never run a canister filter on my SW for anything. I would buy a nextreef media reactor and be done with it.
FW = canister filter domain :)

I'm not familiar with the sicce canister filter but I had some success using a canister filter for carbon, phosphates, and biopellets(not bioball or those ceramic things, but the solid carbon dosing stuff).
The down side of a canister filter is you can't see the media and most media has to be placed in media bags which can get clogged. So there is more maintenance there.
They are not a nitrate trap if you treat them as a media reactor and maintain them like that.

A canister would be fine to run carbon in but I would try not to use filter pads or other media that would collect detritus unless you are going to clean it weekly or so. As far as the phos-pure if it is a gfo it would be better in a reactor so that you can control the flow to make sure that it tumbles properly.

For GFO a reactor would be ideal and the reactor for them is not expensive.

I still use my FX5 canister filters for sand, or carbon/extra flow off my sump . As long as you keep em clean they are essentially the same thing other than you can't see in them.

Canister filter will work just as fine. I run carbon with my reef to polish the tank had no problem just don't use the media pad I use the carbon pouches.
