So I am looking into getting a protein skimmer for the 75 gal tank I'm setting up and I was wondering if i would be able to have a skimmer and a canopy?

I obviously am interested in a hang on back skimmer and was wondering if anyone knew of a good model that will work for my 75 and will fit under a canopy?

Thanks!

Is your canopy open back? If its a right fit all around, you're going to have to do some measurement and/or adjustment.

Most canopies are going to have an open back so that you can hang your equipment on. so there shouldn't be a problem

I also have a 75 gallon Display and you will be much happier if you get an overflow box and run a sump. Then you have a sump to put your skimmer in.

If your going to put a HOB skimmer then I recommend the Eshopps psk skimmer rated for 100gal. Live aquaria.com is running a sale. I have this skimmer on my tank and very happy with its performance.`

The Aqua C Remora skimmer is an absolute beast when it comes to HOB skimmers. I had one running on my first 75 gal setup. It skimmed like crazy!

If you are dead set on not going with a sump i would get a Warner Marine H2 V2 skimmer, its what iv been running for about 6 months and its a great skimmer as far as HoB goes.

But i would consider going the sump route, im currently planning on adding one to my tank, wish i did it from the start.

i too would suggest an overflow box and sump . for the few hundred bucks more your system will be hands down a zillion percent better ,more stable ,easier to maintain and also upgrade when you need to .

Maybe the OP is worried about the skimmer being taller than the canopy?

I'd also go with a sump if at all possible. Really cleans up your DT with unwanted equipment viewable!

I'm a huge Octopus lover and think that they have great products compared to price.

I've heard a lot of good things about this skimmer in a HOB situation and I use the SRO 3000 and absolutely LOVE it!

I'd pass on the eshopps. It will work for a while but then you will constantly be adjusting it for continued performance. I recommend super reef octopus hob skimmers. Under $300 and I'd put one on a 125 gallon tank any day. Never needs adjusting, pulls thick skimmate (5x more in the same period that my eshopps psk100 did). Plus it has a chamber to put in a carbon sock and/or a phosphate remover sock. Looks REAL slick too!
