I have a couple of acans that are on fairly large pieces of live rock rubble. I would like to cut the rock down in size so that they're easier to fit into my aquascape.

What tool(s) would you suggest?

How likely am I to injure them? I won't cut anywhere the acan is attached, just the "extra" rock.

Dremel works great IMO.

i have had good luck with just a pair of wire snips not the flat ones for electronic work, the ones that just cut look like pliers but cut wire, metal tie wire.

been my favorite method for years.

I bought some cheap wood chisels from harbor freight to do this.

All of the above work...Hammer and chisel is easy and inexpensive.
