Thanks in advance for taking the time to read this over.

I have a ~25g tank, with a ~10g sump.

The tank is only a few months old, and I am working to address some bugs I have run into thus far.

1. I have been doing bi-weekly water changes of 15g.

Is this too much, too little, not often enough, or alright?

2. I have a lot of debris loose in my water. This tells me that my flow is good enough to keep it off the sand, but it's not going anywhere. In my sump, I have a chamber full to the brim of live rock, which is where the overflow pours into. This chamber feeds a small refugium area that is completely empty. I haven't purchased a light yet, so I have left it empty. The water is dumped into an area dedicated to heaters and such, then returned to the tank.

What is the best way for me to start getting my water clear? I am planning on adding a filter sock. What about some sort of media? Just charcoal, or something better?

3. I am running my light from 8am-9pm. I like it on when I am home, and this works for me. Is this too much of a light schedule? Would it be benificial to have it off for a few hours during mid day?

4. I have 3 turbos, three hermits, 4 nassarus, and a sand sifting goby. Is this enough of a CUC for my system? What should I add more of?

Thanks again.

1. Thats a pretty large change. Unless I had something wrong in the tank I'd probably only do like a 10g change max.
2. The filter sock will help with debris in the water column, carbon will help remove any yellow tint in the water.
3. Most ppl generally run their tank on a shorter cycle. 10hrs is common.
4. I wouldnt add anymore. In my opinion most ppl get too large of a cuc only to have it die off slowly. If that turns out to be not enough you'll know.

i would do 10% changes.....so 10% of total water volume (35 gallons)

Skimmer, i stayaway from foam and etc because it causes problems

you will deffently have alage problems with 13 hrs of light! i'd go like hrs max

I.M.O 3 turbo snails is to many for that size tank. i keep one in my 29 with 15 gallon sump. also i would add some type of shrimp to your CUC. also maybe some more hermits.....

Thanks again.

You didn't say how many hours!

The turbo's tick me off anyway. Always knocking stuff over and such. I just added them because there was a substantial amount of algea on the rock I started with.

I can't run a skimmer with my current set up. I intend to build a new stand/sump when I have the finances and time, but right now I have only about 13" clearance height in my sump. And it's not really accessable. It's a bad set up, and will get changed as soon as I can, but for now theres just no way to get a skimmer in the space I have. I know HOB is a possibility, but it's just so ugly.
