Can Brown diatoms ocurr often after cycling a tank? My 28gal reef cycled and I introduced 3 fish and some frags. Obvlously, now I know that it was not stable enough (got .25 ammonia, handling it with water changes and Microbacter). I have a minor brown diatom algae bloom...
Is this something that happens in a percentage of recently cycled tanks?
I reduced feeding to every other day.
Im getting a protein skimmer next week too.

Thank you for your attention

I think it happens in all new tanks it will go away with time, If you have ammonia you should not have fish they will likely die.

NH3 was zero...but went up...a couple of errors and overfeeding. Exceeded the filtration capacity. I'll check again tonight.

part of a cycled tank. add things very very slowly and avoid overfeeding.

Depending on the fish you have....More than likely they WILL NOT die with .25 ammonia. Too much water change may continue the cycle process. The diatom bloom is normal. Just cut your feeding down and do very small water changes.
