so here is the plan for my mantis tank:

15.5g rimless glass tank....20x15x12
2x4 stand
15w regular aquarium light.....I do have a 4x24 t5 fixture but I have read they like lower light...do not plan on keeping anything else in the tank except the mantis
rock(30lbs)2inch LS and water from a local breaking down his tank....so there will be little to no cycle.
skimmer...tunze 9002...with this and regular water changes I do not think any sump or other filter will be needed.
2xkoralia 1's....This should be enough flow to keep detirus suspended for the skimmer to do it's job.

Does anything look to be wrong or do I need anything else for the setup?

What Salinity do I need to be at for a mantis?
do I need to keep the same parameters as say a mixed reef?

any thoughts or suggestions are greatly wanted.

Mike

Sounds good. Keep your salinity just like you would would for a reef tank, 1.025-1.026. Depending on the size of the mantis you may not want 30 lbs. of rock in there though. My N. wennerae is so small I would never see it if I had that much rock.

Thanks ritter....that 15g may get upgraded to a 40b as I just found out today that my local Petco is still doing the $1 per gallon sale till the 23rd of this month...thinking about picking up 2 maybe 3....1 for the mantis 1 for the SPS reef I will start working on next and one for them to share for a sump.....good time ahead for me....LOL

Thread hijack!! But slattery some species live in a 10g while others need a 30g Iwould discourage putting one in a sump as a curious mantis shrimp may just find its way into your main tank.

Start your own thread tho

i have a tiny oerstedii in the refugium section of my sump.

also MrMorton, unless you have a gravity fed sump theres no possibility of a mantis making is from sump to display without being shredded in the return pump..
