i feed my 29 tank a mix of formula 1 and diy food i learned to make online. the cycle is i feed 1 one day and the other the following. after a while, even with 10% water changes weekly, i developed a cyano and browned sps problem. to counter i started dosing vodka very slowly. about half of the recomemded amount suggested on the dosing links. now that has caused a green algea or bacteria to form in some locations...in addition, cycano is still present in some locations. the vodka dosing cause some of my corals to get pale so i started adding some amino acid. at first i was adding 1-2 drops 2x a week. i have since cut back on the vodka dosing and AA addative. right now my weekly dosing for those 2 are 2 drops vodka 1x a week and 1 aa 1x a week. some of my equipment include Octopus NWB-100 Pinwheel Skimmer and a phosban reactor with carbon and gfo. for flow i have a mag5 for return and korelia 2. do you suppose more flow would help keep things from forming? was thinking of getting a mp40 and using it on the lowest setting(plan on upgrading to 75). also could the DIY food be the source of the problem?
here are my tank params.
amonia: 0
Phosphates : undetectable
Nitrates: 10ppm
nitrites: 0
cal: 410
alk: 8.2
mag: 1380
*tested 2 days ago
any insight would be greatly appreciated. also if theres other info needed let me know. thnx

What fish do you have? Whats in the homemade food? How much are you feeding?

These are important questions that you need to consider..

in the tank is 2 occ. clowns, a neon dottyback, 2 skunkshrimp, 2 fireshrimp. the diy food consists of cod, flounder, haddock, scallops, oyster, clam, shrimp, bits of nori, frozen mysis, frozen boodworms. i feed formula 1 one day, then the diy food the following day.

maybe reduce feeding and increase water change frequency. You can also do the water change but filter those cyano out and recycle the water back to the tank. Also remove the juice from the DIY food?

cyano is such a pain in the rear. Siphon as much out as you can during your W/C and then got you a 7micron bag and put it in your sump and siphon water in to the bag. I did this for 2 months and finally got rid of the cyano.

I had a mat of neon green algae/bacteria set foot on my sand bed after my hair algae bloom FINALLY got under control.

It is starting to turn maroon-ish, as well as it seems to maybe, just maybe be getting smaller.

Here's to hoping. I remember a cyano battle I had ages ago.

about 2 weeks ago i started rinsing the diy food with ro/di before feed. also i usually syphon out the cyano once every week with waterchange. think i should try a month with just pellet food to see if the diy food is the cause?
