I just inherited a tank with a bit of an algae problem. I know water changes and a good CUC can help out. What would be considered essential to keeping a 75 gal with 25 sump clean in terms of CUC? Also, what is the name of the stringy algae you can grow in the tank to absorb the nutrients of the undesired algae?

Thanks a milli

You are thinking of chaetomorpha. As for a cuc this is partially up to preference. Some say omit hermits if you have snails. I personally like them, just keep them well fed and provide them with spare shells. There are a motorist of hermits and snails out there that do a great job. Some also like brittle stars and various fish to stir up the sand bed. To get a good idea on numbers, take a look at reefcleanets dot org. I always liked their recommendations on what to go for.
