I've now spent two nights trying to set up the internet access to my Apex. I've searched all over and tried everything I could find and still no access.

Here's my situation:

iMac running Snow Leopard
Actiontec PK5000 modem/wireless router
Dyndns account set up--appears to dynamically link to IP address (its the external address at 184., etc.)
Apex is set with its address
Apex connected to network with wireless bridge
Set port forwarding to forward port 7890 to the Apex address
When I use Open Port Tool on Dyndns.com to go to the IP addresss:7890, it get a timed out message
If I try Open Port with any other port at the computer IP address, all time out as being blocked
Checked firewall is off on Actiontec and computer
DMZ disabled
When I enter the Apex address in my computer browser, I get the login and can access it

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Rich

Unofficial Users Guid devotes a chapter on getting internet connected; have you checked it out?

Sticky at the top of the forum...

Verify that the default gateway on the Apex is set to the LAN IP address of the router.

Is the port forwarding rule directing inbound traffic to private port 80, or port 7890? What is the Apex's http port setting?

You should not disable the firewall in the router.

(I tried posting this before, but it disappeared into the ether)

Ken, yep I have read the unofficial guide carefully. It's very useful, but still can't get this to work.

Russ, checked and the Apex gateway was wrong, fixed it to match the LAN IP address of the router.

As to port forwarding, I am a bit confused by it, so may have this wrong. Here is the text:

Please enter ports and port ranges that some Internet applications require to be forwarded in the spaces below.
1. Set the LAN port and IP information.
Starting Port: (I put 7890)
Ending Port: (I put 7890)
Protocol: (Set at TCP)
LAN IP Address: (I put the Apex address)

2. Set the Remote Port and IP Information. (Optional)
Starting Port: (I left at default setting of 0)
Ending Port: (I left at default setting of 65535)
Set Remote IP Address: (I left blank) (0.0.0.0 will use any IP Address)

3. Click "Apply" to save your changes.

I had turned off the firewall to make sure it wasn't blocking things. Guess it's not to blame.

Thanks for all the great help!

Rich

Try this: 1. Set the LAN port and IP information.
Starting Port: 80
Ending Port: 80
Protocol: TCP
LAN IP Address: Apex address

Leave the Apex http port at the default setting of 80

If that doesn't work, try this
1. Set the LAN port and IP information.
Starting Port: 7890
Ending Port: 7890
Protocol: TCP
LAN IP Address: Apex address

Set the Apex http port to 7890. Reboot the Apex after making this change

Step 2 should be left at defaults

Russ-

I did your first suggestion and it works! I get the login screen. Thanks,

Rich
