Can i put carbon in the filter sock on my drain line is this a bad idea?

I have read some threads that say it is a bad idea. However, I do it. I haven't seen any bad effects. The only thing is you need to make sure the water has to go through the carbon. If it has a way to go around it the carbon won't be very effective.

IMO it isn't bad, aside from the fact that you are going to have to empty that filter sock pretty darn soon hence wasting carbon. I'd just as soon get a used TLK reactor (they can be had for $25 or less pretty regularly here) and run my carbon in that. You will end up wasting far less carbon in the long run.
