I'm thinking about getting a 6 Gallon JBJ Nano Cube, like this http://www.fosterandsmithaquatics.com/Product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=10677
In it I just want to put some live rock and corals, and maybe a small fish and/or a shrimp.
What do you guys think about this tank? It looks like it comes with a decent light, and filtration.
I'm not looking to have a crazy good tank, just something that can keep corals and a fish alive. Also would I have to add anything to this tank for it to be good? like a power head or protein skimmer or something?
And which kind of sand would you suggest? does it matter?
Thanks for the help. Sorry for the dumb questions btw, I'm new at this stuff.

If you're new to saltwater/reef tanks then I would recommend that you get the biggest tank that you can afford. Mainly because the smaller the tank the less forgiving it is. Things happen fast in small tanks and there is little room for error.

Well I'm not really new to this. I have a 55g and a 20L already. But now I kinda want to get a smaller tank for corals. Do you know whether or not these are good tanks?

But I also have a 10 gallon tank with nothing in it. Do you think I should just get a good light for that and make that my coral tank?
If so, does anyone have any suggestions of what to get for the 10gal tank. Like what kind of lights, powerhead, filter, etc.

Personally I'd just use the 10g you already have. But if you don't like the look of a standard tank with a hang on back filter, etc. then I'd get one of the all-in-one tanks you mentioned in your first post. If you went with the 10g I would use either metal halide or LED lighting (like two PAR38's). For filtration I'd recommend one of the Aquaclear series of HOB filters like an Aquaclear 70. And for flow you could use a couple of the new small Koralia's or a Vortech MP10 if you wanted to go high-tech.

You wouldn't suggest just compact fluorescent lights like these?

Alright guys, Well I'm thinking about this set-up, tell me what you think.
14 Gallon Biocube
Biocube Protein Skimmer
Hydor Koralia Nano - 425gph
Live Sand
And Ill just keep using the compact fluorescent that come with the Biocube. They are good enough for most corals right?

After doing some researching I found out that a lot of you guys say the Biocube Protein Skimmer sucks, So maybe I wont get that. Should I get a different kind? Or should I just not get one at all?

In my opinion you really don't need a skimmer on such a small tank. Just keep up with weekly water changes and you should be good.

Alright cool, Thanks Clavius! I will just do weekly water changes!

I have a 6 gallon nano cube. I like it, but it only has one 18 watt pc in it stock. I added a second 18 watt pc to and made a remote ballast box. The 8 gallon bio cube already has 2 18 watt pc in it so I feel it is better in that respect.
