Bubble Magus. I'm running the NAC7 but if the NAC6 is anything like it you won't be disappointed.

are there any other options your open to?

out of the two I would go with the Magnus, however I think there are better skimmers for the price out there....

and obviously the sro 1000 would be worth the extra bucks also...

Your link goes to an Eshopps skimmer. Are you really suggesting it is better than the two in question? IMO the Reef Octo is a little more efficient than the Bubble Magnus, but makes more noise. SWC and Vertex also make good skimmers. All are better than the Eshopps by a long shot.

Well, here's my input.

I was running a Reef Octopus Extreme 200 (90g DT/30g sump) for a year and I swapped it out for a NAC7 last week and so far I'm very happy I did.

My main reasons for changing skimmers are these:
1) NAC7 has a small footprint in my sump. I can pull the entire skimmer out of the cabinet without any issues. The Octx was a pain to remove, I had to take several pieces off and then work the skimmer body out of my cabinet which typically led to me spilling water on the floor. I've learned that if I can't easily get stuff out to get cleaned, I'll probably slack off on cleaning it.

2) Wow the NAC7 is very quiet compared to OctX200. The tank is in our family/TV room and the noise from the skimmer was a bit annoying. Now with the NAC7, I can't tell it's on unless my ear is to the cabinet door. The overflow and MP40 (a different issue :) ) are what I hear.

As for performance, my skimmer is still breaking in but I think it's comparable with a slight edge to the Octx 200. I knew this might happen but points #1 and #2 were my main goal.

FYI, my tank is lightly stocked with 2 clowns and a Kole Tang and mostly softies and LPS. In the future, as my population grows, we'll see how the NAC7 holds up. Otherwise, I'd love a Reef Octopus XP-2000sss (about the same footprint as NAC7).

Now if I can only quiet down that MP40 ;)

I run a BM150 Pro on a 100G system, i have about 12fish(big and small) along with tons of SPS all colorful with 0 nitrates :) Bubble Magus is good to me.

I would go with the Bubble Magus. The Reef Octopus skimmers are ok(I have one) but I am looking to get a bubble magus in the near future. The pumps on the reef octopus are Resuns which are not the best quality.

Of those two I would choose the BM but I would take a Super Reef Octopus (SRO) or SRO XP over a BM any day.

I had the BM mini and though it was cheap... never used the larger skimmers tho.

Get a SWC cone skimmer for the price.

I have the same total volume as the OP, would the swc 120 be big enough for a 45 with a 20 sump?

What is the difference between the NAC6 and NAC6A ?

What is the difference between the NAC6 and NAC6A ?

The neck appears to be a little wider on the NAC6A. Other than that, the specifications are exactly the same.

I just got my NAC7. It looks great! BUT it is noisy. Does it settle in and quiet down after break in? I have it running in a bucket of used tank water to clean it out before adding it to my sump.

I just recently had to make the same decision for my 90 gal.....my limitation was height....I had to find something 20" tall or less. Ended up with the Super Reef Octopus 1000 internal....and it's working out very well. It's quiet....makes more skimmate in a day than my old one did in a week....I'm a happy reefer!

It should Mine is 2ft from my couch and I can barley hear it. But I guess it is subjective.
